Welcome to The Cornwall Independent School
The Cornwall Independent School regards the education of each child as a partnership between home and school. A written report of pupils’ progress and attainment is issued at the end of each year, together with a short interim report at the end of the Autumn Term and a consultation evening in the spring term. Parents are invited to make contact with the school at any time if there are any concerns.
We use the GL Assessment system to monitor reading and spelling. We test our Pupils cognitive abilities in the Autumn Term using CAT4 testing. This helps us to understand the pupils learning styles and ability levels. We conduct Maths, English and Science end of year assessments to gain greater understanding of their achievement levels. In addition to these tests we conduct end of topic tests throughout school and across different subjects.
In primary classes we do weekly spelling tests, times table tests and end of the week Maths tests. We test spelling, grammar and punctuation on a half termly basis. We also keep a writing progress book which tracks pupils through their primary school career and is a lovely memory of their achievement as they complete Year 6.
Once in secondary our pupils continue to complete end of topic tests and are looking towards GCSE. They begin to explore past papers and understand the skills needed to answer their GCSE questions effectively.
Praise is the keystone of our success. At the same time, children recognise the parameters of behaviour and acquire the expected work ethic.
We are keen to make school an enjoyable experience and always make sure that there are plenty of opportunities for fun as well as learning and broadening the knowledge and understanding of our pupils.
