Key Stage 3

Our friendly family approach supports the transition into the secondary phase for our primary pupils and also those who join us for their secondary education. Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils are taught completely by specialist teachers. They have an allocated form tutor who will be their daily point of contact and offer any required pastoral support. Our pupils move around the school to different lessons and are taught in specialist classrooms. Pupils continue to learn in all subject areas through key stage 3. In year 9 we hold an options evening in the spring term and pupils make their selection of subjects which they would like to study at GCSE.

In key stage 3 pupils continue to explore careers within PSHE and they begin to take part in careers advice session with our external careers advisor who visits the school regularly during the year.

Key Stage 4

After choosing their options in Year 9 our pupils then begin their GCSE studies in Year 10. Also in Year 10 our pupils take part in work experience week. They organise their placement with our guidance and support and amaze us with the variety of activities they choose.

Our Years 10 and 11 follow GCSE courses examined by the Edexcel or AQA Examinations Board. In addition to the examination subjects our pupils still have a PE, PCSHE/RSE/RE lesson each week.

We ensure our pupils are given information about their next steps and take them to visit local colleges and have visitors to school who discus their future options. Our pupils also receive impartial careers advice from our external careers advisor.

A range of subjects, including those required to obtain the English Baccalaureate, are studied.
